Important Note: Before setting up SMS in Alta, please ensure your Twilio account is approved for SMS sending. Without Twilio approval, SMS messages will not be delivered.
Part 1: Connect Twilio to Alta
Before setting up SMS replies, make sure your Twilio account is connected.
Step 1: Connect Twilio
Go to Alta → Settings → Integrations.
Locate the Twilio section.
Click Connect.
Paste your:
Account SID
Auth Token
(You can find both inside your Twilio console.)
Click Connect.
Your Twilio account is now connected to Alta.
Part 2: Configure SMS Webhook (Required to Receive Replies)
To receive SMS replies inside Alta, you must add Alta's webhook URLs to your Twilio Messaging Service
Step 1: Copy the SMS Webhook URL and the Error Webhook URL
Go to Alta → Settings → Integrations.
Locate the Twilio section and click Customize.
Click “Click to show webhook URL”.
Copy the SMS Webhook URL and the Error Webhook URL
Keep both URLs ready — you will paste them into Twilio.
Step 2: Configure the Webhook in Twilio
Log in to your Twilio account.
Go to Messaging → Services.
Click the name of your Messaging Service.
Open the Settings tab and, under Inbound messages, select Send a webhook.
In the Request URL field, paste the SMS Webhook URL from Alta.
In the Fallback URL field, paste the Error Webhook URL from Alta.
Click Save
Important: If you use more than one Messaging Service to send SMS, repeat this for each one
Part 3: Configure the Error Webhook (Required Step)
This ensures errors are logged correctly.
Step 1: Configure Error Webhook
In Twilio, go to Monitor.
Open the Logs tab.
Click Errors.
Click Webhook.
If you see an 'unsaved changes' pop-up, click Discard Changes.
Return to Alta.
Copy the Error Webhook URL.
Go back to the Twilio page.
Paste the Error Webhook URL into the webhook URL field.
Click Save.
Final Result
Once completed:
SMS replies sent to your Twilio number will appear inside the Alta Inbox.
You can manage replies directly from Alta.
All configured numbers will route replies correctly.
