How to Save and Switch Dashboard Views in Alta

Save filtered, date-scoped versions of any dashboard as named views — switch between them, rename, and delete — all from the view switcher and the Filters toolbar.

Written by Katie Supporté

Dashboard views let you save a filtered, date-scoped version of a dashboard and jump back to it in one click — so you can keep a "This Quarter," a "By Rep," and an "All Time" cut of the same dashboard without rebuilding filters every time.

Who this is for: Anyone who uses dashboards in Track and wants to save reusable, filtered cuts of the same data.

Before you start

  • Every dashboard already has at least one view, so there's nothing to set up first — you're always looking at a view.

  • To save changes to an existing view you need Edit view permission; to create a new one you need Add view permission. If you don't have them, the relevant buttons are greyed out with a tooltip explaining why.

Switch between views

  1. Open any dashboard from Track → Dashboards.

  2. In the top-right action bar, click the button showing the current view name (it has a chevron next to it).

  3. In the popover, use the Search view box to find a view by name, then click any view in the list to switch to it.

Switching views instantly applies that view's saved filters and date range to every widget on the dashboard.

Apply filters and save them to the current view

  1. In the Filters toolbar (the bordered bar just under the dashboard title), set a date range using the date selector on the left.

  2. Click Filters (the funnel button) to open the filter popover.

  3. Click + Add new filter, choose a field, an operator, and a value. Add as many rules as you need.

  4. Click Apply to apply the filters to the dashboard without saving, or click Save to view to apply them and store them on the current view in one step.

  5. To save the current filters and date range to the view at any time, click Save in the toolbar. You'll see a Successfully saved view confirmation.

Save the current filters as a new view

  1. Set up the date range and filters you want.

  2. Either open the view switcher and click + Create new view, or in the Filters toolbar click the chevron next to Save and choose Save as new view.

  3. In the Create view dialog, type a name in the Name field (a name is required), then click Save view.

  4. Alta confirms with Successfully created view and opens the new view automatically.

Rename or delete a view

  1. Open the view switcher and hover over the view you want to change.

  2. Click the (overflow) menu on that row.

  3. Choose Rename to edit the name inline, or Delete to remove the view.

Tips and common pitfalls

  • You can't delete the last view. A dashboard must always have at least one view, so Delete is disabled on the final remaining view ("You cannot delete the last dashboard view").

  • Save vs. Save as new view. Save (and Save view) overwrite the filters on the view you're currently looking at. Use Save as new view when you want to keep the original untouched.

  • Apply doesn't persist. Clicking Apply in the filter popover only changes what you see now — reload or switch views and it's gone. Use Save or Save to view to make it stick.

  • Filter fields come from your widgets. The available filter fields are pulled from the data models behind the widgets on that dashboard, so a field only appears if a widget uses it.

  • Greyed-out buttons mean permissions. If Save, Save as new view, Rename, or Delete is disabled, you're missing the matching dashboard permission — hover for the exact reason.
