AI enrichment lets you go beyond the data Alta provides out of the box. Instead of being limited to fixed fields, you can describe any data point you want — in plain language — and Alta researches it and writes the answers into new columns on your audience list.
It's now built directly into every audience list, with two upgrades that make it far more useful: you can run it across your entire list, and you can see the AI's reasoning behind every field it fills in.
What Changed
AI enrichment previously lived inside campaign setup, where it was easy to miss and hard to tell what it could actually do.
It now lives in the Add Enrichment panel on every audience list, alongside Phone, Email, and Alta enrichment. Two things make the audience-list version more powerful:
Run on your entire list — enrich all your people at once, not just a small sample.
See the reasoning for every field — open any result to read exactly why the AI chose the value it did, so you can trust the output before you use it.
What AI Custom Enrichment Does
You describe the data you're looking for, and Alta researches each person in your list and returns the answer as a new column.
For example, you can ask for things like:
"Where did they study?"
"Are they currently hiring SDRs?"
"What does their company sell?"
"Have they recently changed roles?"
Anything you can describe, the AI can research and structure into fields you define.
How to Run AI Custom Enrichment
Go to Audience in the left navigation and open your list.
Click Add Enrichment in the top bar.
Select AI Custom Enrichment.
Under "Tell us what data are you looking for?", describe what you want in plain language (at least 10 characters).
Click Generate Prompt. Alta drafts a full prompt and suggests output fields. Use Regenerate Prompt to try again if needed.
Fine-tune the draft:
Prompt — edit the text directly, and insert variables from Person, Company, Pitch, or your list's custom columns.
Model — choose which AI model runs the enrichment.
Fields — name each output column and pick its type. Add more fields or remove them as needed.
Choose your run scope and start the enrichment.
Enrichment runs in the background — you can keep working while columns fill in as results arrive.
Choosing How Many Rows to Enrich
Run on a few rows — a small test batch. This is the recommended first pass, so you can check the output before running the whole list.
Run on selected rows — enrich only the people you've selected.
Run on all rows — enrich your entire list at once (up to the 1,000-row list maximum).
We recommend testing on a few rows first, especially for a new prompt, so you can confirm the columns look right.
Seeing the AI's Reasoning
For each enriched field, you can open the result to see the reasoning behind it — the explanation of why the AI arrived at that value.
This makes the output transparent rather than a black box: you can verify a value, spot when the AI wasn't confident, and decide whether to refine your prompt before running the full list.
Editing an Enrichment After You Create It
Once an AI enrichment is attached to your list, you can reopen it to change the prompt and model, then save. Alta will refresh the existing values using your updated prompt. Output fields are locked once created.
Tips and Best Practices
Test on a few rows first. Check the output columns before enriching the whole list.
Run Alta enrichment before AI Custom Enrichment. The AI produces better answers when profile and company data are already in place.
Be specific in your prompt. The clearer your description, the more accurate and consistent the results.
Use the reasoning to refine. If a field looks off, the reasoning usually shows why — adjust the prompt and rerun.
Summary
AI enrichment is now front and center in your audience lists. Describe any data point you need, run it across your entire list, and review the AI's reasoning for every field before you act on it — so you can build richer, more personalized outreach with data you can actually trust.
