How to Build and Manage Audience Lists in Alta

Build reusable audience lists once, then launch as many campaigns as you want from them. Audience Lists help you avoid redefining your audience criteria every time you create a campaign. Instead, you can build a list once, save it, enrich it, and reuse it

What Is the Audience Builder?

The Audience Builder is where you create and manage reusable lists of people in Alta.

Unlike the Audience step inside a campaign, which is specific to one campaign, Audience Lists live outside campaigns and can be reused across multiple campaigns.

Think of the Audience Builder as the strategic layer above your campaigns.

It is especially useful for teams running:

  • ABM campaigns

  • Signal-based campaigns

  • Demand generation plays

  • RevOps workflows

  • Multi-source audience building

Step 1: Create an Audience List

1. Go to Audience

From the left navigation panel, click Audience.

2. Choose an Audience Source

Select a source from the options at the top of the page.

Common sources include:

  • Alta People Search

  • CSV

  • HubSpot

You can also click More Sources to access additional options, such as:

  • Social Signals

  • Trigger Events

  • ABM

  • Google Maps

  • Additional data sources

3. Name Your List

Give your audience list a clear name.

This will make it easier to find and reuse later.

Tip

Rename your list right away.

The auto-generated date-stamped name can become confusing once you have multiple lists.

4. Build Your Audience

After selecting your source and naming your list, Alta will take you into the Audience Builder.

This is where you define the criteria for the people who should be added to your list.

Anyone who matches your criteria will be added to the audience list.

Step 2: Define Your Audience

There are two ways to define your audience criteria.

Option 1: Use Katie AI

You can describe your audience in plain language, and Katie will help fill in the filters for you.

For example, you can describe the type of people or companies you want to target, and Katie will translate that into audience criteria.

Option 2: Add Filters Manually

You can also build your audience manually by adding filters.

Common filters include:

  • Company size

  • Industry

  • Revenue

  • Job title

  • Seniority

  • Department

  • Location

  • Company names

  • Domain list

  • Email type

Manual filters are useful when you already know the exact criteria you want to use.

Managing People in an Audience List

From an audience list’s detail view, you can manage the people inside the list.

Add People

Click Add People to return to the Audience Builder and add more people to the same list.

You can also combine multiple sources into one list.

For example, you can add people from:

  • Social Signals

  • CSV uploads

  • HubSpot

  • ABM sources

  • Trigger Events

This allows you to create one unified audience from multiple sources.

Enrich People

Select people in your list and click Enrich.

Enrichment runs in the background, so you can continue working while Alta completes the process.

Once enrichment is complete, Alta will notify you.

Enrichment can help add useful data such as:

  • Contact details

  • Role information

  • Company context

  • Additional data points for personalization

Export People

You can export people from an audience list.

You can export:

  • The full list

  • Selected rows only

Selection-based exports are capped at 1,000 people.

Delete People From a List

You can delete people from an audience list.

Deleting someone from a list only removes them from that list. It does not delete the person from Alta entirely.

Launching a Campaign From an Audience List

You can launch a campaign directly from an audience list.

Step 1: Open the Audience List

Go to the list you want to use for your campaign.

Step 2: Click Create Campaign

Click Create Campaign from the list’s detail view.

Step 3: Build Your Campaign

Alta will create a campaign with your audience already attached.

This means you can skip the audience-definition step and go straight to building:

  • Your pitch

  • Your outreach flow

  • Your campaign messaging

  • Your sequence

The same audience list can be used for as many campaigns as you want.

Popular Ways to Use the Audience Builder

1. Use AI Enrichment for Better Messaging

You can enrich your audience with additional context that Katie can use to improve outreach messaging.

For example, enrichment can help add:

  • Role details

  • Company signals

  • Company context

  • Personalization insights

This helps Katie create more relevant and personalized outreach.

2. Enrich Contacts Without Launching a Campaign

You can use Alta as an enrichment engine without creating a campaign.

For example, you can:

  1. Upload or build an audience list.

  2. Enrich contact details, such as emails.

  3. Export the enriched list.

  4. Upload the results back into your CRM.

No campaign is required.

3. Combine Multiple Sources Into One List

You can combine several audience sources into one unified list.

For example, you can blend:

  • Social Signals

  • Event CSVs

  • ABM target accounts

  • Inbound leads

  • HubSpot contacts

This allows you to run one coordinated campaign across a combined audience.

Best Practices

Use Clear List Names

Use descriptive names that explain the audience and source.

For example:

  • VP Sales - SaaS - US

  • Website Visitors - Pricing Page

  • LinkedIn Engagers - Q3 Campaign

  • HubSpot MQLs - Enterprise Accounts

Build Lists Before Creating Campaigns

If you plan to reuse an audience, build it as an Audience List first.

This keeps your audience organized and makes it easier to launch future campaigns.

Enrich Before Launching

Before launching a campaign, enrich the audience to improve data quality and personalization.

This can help improve message relevance and campaign performance.

Combine Sources Carefully

When combining multiple sources, make sure the audience still matches your campaign goal.

A larger list is not always better if the targeting becomes too broad.

Summary

Audience Lists in Alta allow you to build reusable groups of people outside of a single campaign.

Once a list is created, you can:

  • Add more people

  • Enrich the audience

  • Export people

  • Delete people from the list

  • Launch campaigns directly from the list

Using Audience Lists helps you save time, keep targeting organized, and reuse the same audience across multiple campaigns.
