How to Use the Revenue Engine in Alta (Track Your Funnel from Leads to Revenue)

Build a live picture of your revenue funnel: define milestones like Leads, MQL, Opportunity, and Won Deal, attach metrics to each, and track volumes and conversion rates across stages.

Written by Katie Supporté

Summary: The Revenue Engine gives you one live view of your entire funnel — from first captured lead to closed revenue — with a metric attached to every milestone, conversion rates between stages, and drill-downs into the records behind each number.

Who this is for: RevOps and revenue leaders who want to track funnel volumes and conversion in one place instead of stitching together separate charts.

Before you start

  • Connect at least one data source (like your CRM) under Connectors so Alta has funnel data to work with.

  • Each milestone is powered by a metric. If you haven't built metrics yet, start with the Metrics page — you'll attach them to milestones here.

Where to find it

  1. In the sidebar, go to Build → Revenue Engine.

  2. The page shows your funnel as a row of milestone columns. Alta starts you with seven: Leads, MQL, Opportunity, Won Deal, Adopted, Revenue, and Upsell — you can rename and reconfigure all of them.

Reading the map

  1. Each milestone column shows its main metric's total for the selected date range, with the change versus the previous period. If the metric has a goal or forecast, those appear on the progress bar too.

  2. Click a milestone's value to open a drill-down of the underlying records.

  3. Hover the icons at the bottom of a column to see which data sources feed the stage. A Sample Data icon means the stage is still showing mock data — connect a source and set a real metric to replace it.

  4. Use the menu on any stage for Configure Milestone or Edit Metric.

Filter, group, and show conversion rates

  1. Use the date filter in the toolbar to change the period (default is Past 12 Months). The date field is taken from the first stage's metric.

  2. Click Filters to add field-level conditions that apply across all stages.

  3. Use Group By to break every stage down by a field (for example, source or segment). Each group becomes a row. With a breakdown active, hover a stage header to sort rows by that stage's value.

  4. Click the gear icon and check Conversion Rates under Additional Details to show the conversion percentage between each pair of adjacent stages.

Save a view

  1. Set up your date range, filters, and Group By, then open the Select View dropdown and click + Create View to save the combination.

  2. To update a saved view after changing filters, click Save (or open the arrow menu and choose Save view). Save is only enabled while a view is selected — otherwise use Save as new view.

  3. Rename or delete views from the same dropdown using the pencil and trash icons.

Configure a milestone

  1. Click Set Milestones in the toolbar (or Configure Milestone on a stage). This opens the Configure Milestone page.

  2. Pick the milestone you want to edit, then work through the three steps:

1. Milestone Details — set the Milestone Name (at least 2 characters) and an optional Milestone Description (up to 200 characters).

2. Set Metrics — attach up to three metrics: Select Entity Count Metric (how many records reached the stage), Select Amount Metric (their value), and Select Cost Metric. Then choose one as the Main Metric — that's the number displayed on the map. You must select at least one metric, each must be a different metric, and the main metric has to be one of the ones you selected.

3. Set Goals and Alerts — use Set Goals and Set Alerts to open the Goals and Alerts pages for the milestone's metric, so the map shows progress against a target.

Tips and common pitfalls

  • "Metric needs to be defined": a dash (-) in a stage means no main metric is set yet. Open Configure Milestone and complete the Set Metrics step.

  • Filtering not applying to a stage? If you see a filter icon with a warning, the filtered field isn't in that stage's model. Joining entities in the model can make the field available — the tooltip links you straight to the model.

  • Group By options look limited: the list only includes breakdown fields available on your stage metrics, so richer metrics unlock more groupings.

  • Changes aren't saved automatically. Filters, Group By, and date range reset unless you save them as a view.
