How to edit data models in Alta (with video)

To learn how to edit data models, simply follow these steps described in the video and this article below.

Key Steps:

  1. Go to the Models and Entities section.

  2. Choose the model you want to edit (e.g., Deals).

  3. Review the main view and any joint views connected to the model.

  4. View and manage different fields within the model:

    • Edit, duplicate, or delete fields.

    • Note that auto-generated fields cannot be deleted.

    • Hide fields if needed.

  5. Edit specific field settings:

    • Modify field name, description, and type.

    • Adjust value type and format.

    • Preview values and change mapping.

  6. Create a custom field using SQL if necessary.

  7. Confirm changes and save the model.

  8. Review and confirm all changes made.

  9. Manage entity settings:

    • Change entity name and description.

    • Set default date field and primary key.

    • Define a title for the entity page.

    • Customize SQL for the entity view.

  10. Utilize search and sorting functions to investigate data within the model.

  11. Export data to Excel for further analysis.

  • Be careful, when deleting fields, especially auto-generated ones.

  • Double-check all changes before confirming to avoid errors.

  • Use the autocomplete function in SQL for creating custom fields.
