How to Use Signals in Alta

This guide explains how to configure Signals to enhance personalization in your outreach campaigns.

Written by Sharon Drelevich

Overview

Signals allow Katie to track real-time activities (such as LinkedIn posts) and use them to personalize outreach messages.

This helps create more relevant, timely, and high-converting communication.

Step 1: Navigate to Signals

  1. Go to the bottom-left corner of the platform

  2. Click on Knowledge

  3. Select Signals

Step 2: Enable or Disable Signals

  • On the right-hand side, you will see a list of available signals

  • Each signal can be:

    • Toggled ON → Katie will track and use it

    • Toggled OFF → Katie will not use it

Choose only the signals that are relevant to your campaign.

Step 3: Set Signal Duration

Each signal includes a duration window, which defines how long it remains relevant.

Example: LinkedIn Posts

  • If a prospect publishes a LinkedIn post:

    • Katie can reference it in outreach messages

  • If you set the duration to 7 days:

    • Katie will mention the post only within 7 days of it being published

    • After that, it will no longer be used

This ensures messaging stays timely and accurate.

Best Practices

  • Use shorter durations (e.g., 3–7 days) for highly time-sensitive signals

  • Enable only signals that add meaningful context to your outreach

  • Avoid overloading with too many signals to keep messaging focused

Why Signals Matter

Signals significantly improve personalization by allowing Katie to:

  • Reference recent prospect activity

  • Create more relevant and contextual messages

  • Increase engagement in one-to-one outreach
