Keeping your LinkedIn connected - a quick guide

A few small habits that keep your LinkedIn steadily connected to Alta -sign-in, sessions, verifications, and reconnecting the Katie extension.

LinkedIn is strict about where and how an account is signed in, so a few small habits keep the connection stable. Here's the full list — a couple of these usually explain a repeated disconnect.

Where and how you sign in

  • Stay signed in: Stay signed in to LinkedIn on one main computer and browser, and keep the Katie extension there. Signing in from other machines can knock out the connection Alta is using.

  • Use one stable network: If you need a VPN, keep it on the same region rather than switching — big location jumps look like a security risk to LinkedIn.

  • Avoid location mismatches: Avoid using the LinkedIn mobile app in a different city than your computer on the same day. That mismatch is a common trigger for a forced re-login.

Things that quietly end a session

  • Don't log out: Don't log out of LinkedIn at the end of the day — closing the tab is fine, but logging out ends the exact session Alta relies on.

  • Security prompts: After changing your password, or clicking "This wasn't me" / "Sign out of other sessions," just reconnect Alta once and leave it connected. Those actions end all active sessions by design.

  • Clear cookies: Exclude LinkedIn from any cookie clearing, and don't run Alta from an incognito window — clearing cookies deletes the LinkedIn session each time.

If LinkedIn is asking you to verify

  • Clear pending verifications: Open LinkedIn directly and clear every pending verification (codes, CAPTCHAs, "confirm it's you") before reconnecting. While LinkedIn is actively reviewing an account, it keeps dropping the session until it's satisfied.

  • Keep it to one person: Keep it to one person per LinkedIn account. Two people signing in from different places creates constant conflicts.

The Katie extension

If you need to reconnect LinkedIn: remove the current Katie Chrome extension first, refresh Alta, and then reconnect. Reconnecting on top of the old extension usually fails — clearing it out and refreshing is what lets the new connection take.
