How to Send Prospects to Another Campaign in Alta (Move or Re-Target Prospects)

Use the prospects actions menu to send selected or filtered prospects into a new or existing campaign, with an option to pause them in their current campaign.

Written by Katie Supporté

Summary: From any prospects table, you can send up to 5,000 prospects into a brand-new campaign or an existing one — and optionally pause them in their current campaign so they never get messages from two campaigns at once.

Who this is for: Anyone who wants to re-target, follow up with, or reorganize prospects that are already in Alta — for example, moving non-responders into a new nurture campaign.

Before you start

  • You can send up to 5,000 prospects per action. If your selection or filter matches more, Alta sends the first 5,000.

  • When adding to an existing campaign, only Draft and Active campaigns that accept prospect lists appear in the dropdown. Archived campaigns and campaigns built on other audience source types are not shown.

Step 1 — Open a prospects table

  1. Go to the Prospects page, or open the Prospects tab inside a campaign.

  2. Use filters (status, campaign, tags, and so on) to narrow down the prospects you want to move.

Step 2 — Choose who to send

  • Select specific prospects using the row checkboxes — only those prospects will be sent.

  • Or select nothing — the action then applies to every prospect matching your current filters (up to the 5,000 cap). Double-check your filters before proceeding.

Step 3 — Open the actions menu

  1. Click the (three-dot) actions button at the top right of the table. This menu also contains Pause all and Status Settings.

  2. Click Send [number] to Campaign. The number shown is exactly how many prospects will be sent.

Step 4 — Pick a destination

In the "Send [number] prospects to a campaign" dialog, choose one of two options:

Option A: Create a new campaign

  1. Select Create a new campaign.

  2. Enter a Campaign Name.

  3. Click Create Campaign. Alta opens the Campaign Builder for the new campaign, and the prospects are added in the background — they'll appear once you launch the campaign.

Option B: Add to an existing campaign

  1. Select Add to an existing campaign.

  2. Pick the destination under Select Campaign — each option shows the campaign's current status (Draft or Active).

  3. Click Add to Campaign. When it finishes, you'll see a confirmation with a View prospects link that takes you straight to the destination campaign's prospect list.

Step 5 — Decide whether to pause them in their current campaign

  • The dialog includes a checkbox: "Pause these prospects in their current campaign (recommended)". It is on by default.

  • Keeping it checked prevents prospects from receiving messages from multiple campaigns simultaneously — the safest choice in almost every case.

  • Uncheck it only if you intentionally want the prospect to continue their current sequence while also entering the new campaign.

Tips and common pitfalls

  • No selection = everything in the filter. If nothing is checked, the send applies to all prospects matching your current filters. Review the number in the menu item ("Send 1,250 to Campaign") before you click — it's your safety check.

  • "No compatible campaigns found." If the existing-campaign dropdown is empty, none of your Draft/Active campaigns can accept a prospect list. Use Create a new campaign instead.

  • New campaigns need a launch. Prospects sent to a new campaign won't show up in it until you finish setup and launch it from the Campaign Builder.

  • Avoid double outreach. If you uncheck the pause option, the same prospect can be messaged by both campaigns at the same time. Only do this deliberately.
