How to Add LinkedIn "Like a Post" and "View Profile" Steps in Alta (Warm-Up Touchpoints)

Learn how to add the LinkedIn "Like a post" and "View profile" steps to your campaign touchpoints — lightweight warm-up touches that make your name familiar before you connect or message.

Written by Katie Supporté

Summary: The Like a post and View profile steps let your campaign warm up a prospect on LinkedIn — liking their most recent post or visiting their profile — before you send a connection request or message. This article shows you how to add them, how they behave, and when to use each.

Who this is for: Anyone building campaign sequences who wants LinkedIn outreach to feel warmer and less cold.

Before you start

  • At least one rep on the campaign must have a LinkedIn account connected. If not, both steps appear grayed out in the step menu.

  • These steps only run for prospects that have a LinkedIn profile URL on file.

What each step does

Like a post — the sending rep's LinkedIn account reacts with a Like to the prospect's most recent LinkedIn post. The prospect gets a notification that your rep liked their post — a light, positive touch that puts your name in front of them.

View profile — the sending rep's LinkedIn account visits the prospect's profile. Prospects who check their "Who viewed your profile" notifications will see your rep's name and title before your outreach lands.

Neither step has any message content to write — there's nothing to personalize or edit. You just place the step and set how long to wait before it runs.

How to add the steps

  1. Open your campaign and go to the Touchpoints section.

  2. Click + where you want the step in the sequence to open the step menu.

  3. Under Actions, hover over LinkedIn.

  4. Click Like a post or View profile.

  5. Set the wait time before the step runs. Follow-up steps default to a 1-day wait; adjust it to pace your warm-up.

  6. Save your campaign as usual.

A classic warm-up pattern

A common sequence order that makes outreach feel natural:

  1. View profile — day 1, your name shows up in their notifications.

  2. Like a post — a day later, a second light touch.

  3. Connection Request — now your name is familiar.

  4. Message — after they accept.

Several of Alta's built-in sequence templates (like the social-selling ones) already include a Like a post step in this position.

Tips and common pitfalls

  • No posts? The step is skipped. If the prospect has never posted on LinkedIn, the Like a post step is skipped silently and the sequence continues to the next step. It never blocks the campaign.

  • Reactions count toward LinkedIn limits. Post reactions draw from your rep's daily LinkedIn action quota, which Alta manages to protect account health. Heavy use across many campaigns shares the same budget as other LinkedIn actions.

  • Grayed-out menu items mean either LinkedIn isn't included in your plan or a rep selected on the campaign doesn't have LinkedIn connected. Hover over the item to see the exact reason.

  • They work before you're connected. Unlike LinkedIn messages, both steps can run whether or not the prospect has accepted a connection request — that's what makes them ideal warm-up touches.

  • Track results in Performance. The campaign's Performance section shows LinkedIn stats including Post Reactions and Profile Visits, and each action also appears on the prospect's timeline.
